Help YRAC help you…

February 23, 2011

The event we’ve all been waiting for. The York Region Arts Council’s, Arts Exposed conference.

Coming on April 1st and 2nd at the Markham Campus of Seneca College.

York Region hasn’t had a conference of this importance. Lots of strategy and planning is going into this to provide the arts community with valuable information on how to further the arts. Check out the Arts Exposed website at www.artsexposed.ca for details. Special early-bird pricing is in effect for a limited time as well as discounts for YRAC members. Get your membership in YRAC today at www.yorkregionartscouncil.com. Take advantage of this event and learn what it takes to run and arts group or how to further your career in the arts.

YRAC is doing this for you. Register for the conference now! The fee is minimal compared to what you will learn. Remember the importance of arts and culture in your community.

See you there!

Colour of Art

December 9, 2010

Thanks to the staff at Cubbii Market and to all our guests, the opening reception of the Colour of Art show featuring paintings by Audra Noble and your’s truly was a great success. The sampling of the many photos taken  (above) will give you a brief glimpse of the event.

Thanks to Wilson, Winnie, Phil & Ming — our hosts at Cubbii, and to your staff and friends.

Special thanks to Robyn for instigating the show: your guidance and advice is always welcome and usually correct, and your support is never-ending.

Thanks to Nick for capturing some great moments with your camera. You are a wonderful and helpful son.

Thanks to my show partner Audra for agreeing to put together this joint showcase of our collective works. It was a great experience for both of us. Thanks also to Paul for providing the post-show vino.

A great big thank you to all our friends and guests who took the time to come to the reception. I appreciate your continued support.

The Colour of Art show continues through to December 17th. Cubbii Market is located at the corner of the Bridle Trail and Kennedy Road in Unionville, just south of 16th Avenue. Plenty of bargains to be had – priced for the season.

Cheers, Franklin

Artists help with food drive

November 27, 2010

It was a busy scene at Markville Mall in Markham today. Not because of Christmas Shopping. Not because it was a Saturday. Centre court at Markville was host to Paintlounge, a new local art business. Their initiative today was to gather artists for “social painting” to paint bins for food bank collections for their “Art and Soul Food Drive”. Kids and their families kept the Paintlounge volunteers busy, loading up palettes, cleaning brushes and filling paint dishes, all the while answering questions by eager young painters.

Several large canvases were reserved for local artists (of the adult kind). These are to be auctioned off at a later date, with proceeds going to the Markham Food Bank. The collection bins will be taken to local libraries where it is hoped, that citizens will bring food donations.

Canvas artists included Vita Keeling, Audra Noble, Samantha Rodin, Vera Walton, Glenn Bernabe and yours truly. I share credit with my canvas with my wife Robyn, who started and finished the piece. We’ll have pictures later.

The Markham Arts Council and the Markham Teen Arts Council were among the supporters of this event.

Congratulations to Paintlounge for this initiative. It was a pleasure to contribute to a great cause! Please give generously to the food bank.
